Bamburgh Castle

Bamburgh Castle is probably the finest castle in England. It is perched on a basalt outcrop on the very edge of the North Sea at the heart of Bamburgh. The castle has been extensively restored, first Lord Armstrong at the end of the 19th century. The castle continues to be the home of the Armstrong family.

Alnwick Castle

The castle was built by the Norman baron, Yvo de Vescy in the 11th century, as a timber and mote castle and was reconstructed of stone in the early part of the 12th century, but it gained most of its current design under the Percy family who acquired the castle in 1309.

Lindisfarne Castle

Sited on top of a volcanic mound known as Beblowe Craig is one of the most distinct and picturesque features of the island and can be seen for many miles around. The castle was built in the 1550’s using stone from the demolished Priory.
